My love of jewellery-making began over a decade ago when I attended a local evening class on silversmithing techniques. I was immediately hooked and over time have developed my skills and designs.

As I explain on my website, I make the kind of jewellery I like to wear, inspired in part by clean architectural lines and forms. I am drawn to designs which are pared-back, understated and simple and often start with a vague idea which develops into something more concrete during the making process. I love the practical and artistic side of jewellery-making but also the science that underlies it. Understanding this is key to knowing which designs will work and which won’t.

A lot of my jewellery combines silver with gold – either in the form of gold foil applied to silver using an ancient Korean technique known as Keum Boo or as “vermeil”, the name given to a thick plating of 24 carat gold on sterling silver.

I have recently also started working with slate and silver which I believe complement one other brilliantly. My Lake District roots and my family’s close involvement with slate quarrying mean it’s a combination close to my heart and one I hope to develop more going forward.

Each piece of Fedha jewellery is handmade by me. There is no space for short cuts or “mass production” and I hope this is reflected in the quality of the jewellery. Most of my silver and gold jewellery is stamped with my own hallmark.

Fedha jewellery is sold through my website, on the Etsy and Folksy marketplaces and by commission. My work has appeared at the Manchester Art Gallery as part of the Manchester Jewellers’ Network South Asian Exhibition and until recently has also been available from the Platform Gallery in Clitheroe.
