Clever Hands is a small business & art studio based in Liverpool run by Artist Catherine Carmyllie. When the pandemic hit, creative classes at the studio had to pause. Catherine began sending out arts materials by post so that her students could continue being creative at home. Since then the business has grown and has 3 learning options: purchase a kit online, visit the studio in person or watch the video tutorials free online, learning at your own pace.
Kits are aimed at both complete beginners to those with some experience looking to refresh. Something for every budget, each kit is packed to order by Catherine & her 2 Artist friends in her Art studio. She is keen to keep a hand made feel to the kits, just like in her own artwork. Each sticker is hand stamped & tools are hand wrapped. With a focus on creative presentation, the kits make a great gift with hand written gift-tag messages & recycled gift wrap papers.
Lino printing is a relaxing and rewarding arts activity suitable for anyone age 11 upwards (supervised due to sharp tools). Made popular by Matisse & Picasso, you’ll be mindfully lost in the cutting process before feeling uplifted by your exploration of the sumptuous ink colours!
Unlike most kits, Clever Hands offers a range of ink colour choice, you can pick as many inks as you like to play with. Having run workshops for many years, Catherine has an excellent understanding of what’s needed to get started. the materials included are the same as those she has used herself over the years. Just find a few items at home like a pencil & access to a sink.
Her Youtube channel offers handy short videos showing you how to get started along with more advanced techniques. Make this as easy or challenging as you like!
